What is the Foundation for a Healthy Franklin County?

It is a a 501 (c) c not-for-profit corporation with the mission of helping Franklin County Mississippi be healthy and have access to quality health care. It is operated by a board of 7 people who love Franklin County! The current board members are Tammy Torrey, Sonny Dickey, David Campbell, Melanie Harrell, Chonda Ezell, Will Halford, and Matt Holt.

Who started the Foundation?

The foundation was started through a partnership with local business men and woman who were looking for ways to support our hospital and the community. Tammy Torrey served as the first chairwoman of the board with Sonny Dickey serving as Executive director. Initially our name was the Franklin County Memorial Hospital Medical Foundation, but to provide some clarity we changed the name to be the Foundation for a Healthy Franklin County.

What is the mission/goals?

Our official mission statement is: The mission of the Foundation for a Healthy Franklin County is to promote health and wellness for residents of Franklin County and surrounding areas by assisting with the enhancement of quality healthcare, to provide educational classes on health and wellness, to ensure the availability of healthcare professionals, and partner with local government agencies in matters related to healthcare.

What projects have been tackled?

A key focus for us has been and is the Franklin County Memorial Hospital. We all know what this hospital means for our community and the foundation has been partnering with the hospital on projects from day one. Projects have ranged from purchasing a specialized refrigerator for storing medicine and covering the lease amount of the mobile x-ray machine to facemask and the landscaping in the courtyard.

Since our mission goes beyond the hospital and we have also recently joined with other donors to supported the Little League ball fields in Bude, the town of Meadville's Tennis court restoration project, and the ADA Swing Set at the Meadville Park, and facemask for Franklin County Schools.

Does the Foundation need help? If so, how can people help?

We do! The hospital has approached us many times with needs that go beyond our current means. A simple way anyone can support us is through the Amazon Smile Program. You can also make donations or raise money for our cause on a birthday via Facebook and they cover 100% of the credit card processing fees.
